Platinum-Palladium printing is one of the earliest forms of photographic printing, dating back to the 1850’s. It was widely accepted as the standard by all fine art and serious photographers.
It is said that platinum prints are an acquired taste. They may not have the same dramatic “contrast punch” typically seen in silver prints, but rather a much softer, subtle range of tones that offer a greater viewing spectrum, giving the print an almost 3-dimensional appearance.
Platinum prints can only be produced via the contact printing method, placing an analog negative directly upon the coated paper and exposing it to sunlight, just as the process was in the 1850’s. Therefore, the print can only be as large as the negative.
